Story

On 24 May, Stephie Hill and her boyfriend Chris will be setting off on a climb to reach the summit of the Cotopaxi volcano in Ecuador. Cotopaxi, is set in the Andean mountains and at over 19,000 feet above sea level is one of the highest active volcanos in the world. The climb, lasting a number of days, is likely to be very physically demanding and Stephie and Chris will be acclimatising at a refuge, set at about 14,000 feet, before pressing on to the summit. The air is very thin at that altitude and although Stephie and Chris will be using special mountaneering gear to negotiate the glacier section of the volcano, they will be climbing without oxygen. By doing the climb Stephie and Chris are aiming to raise £500 for the appeal fund. All donations will therefore be very gratefully received. Please give generously. Thank you. Update: On Thursday 27th May, after a short delay due to bad weather, Stephie and Chris both made it to the summit of Cotopaxi (photo to follow). Only 4 of the original party of 15 managed to get to the summit and Stephie was the only girl to do it. Thank you all for your support and for helping to raise such a brilliant total!
